When living at South Boston, Virginia, I began waking up at 5 a.m. It was always around that number. So I would pray and then go back to sleep. This was also a time of great Satanic attack from Satin on our church.

One day I was with my dad and I asked him why always around the 5:00 hour? My dad is a retired minister with great knowledge and wisdom. He said, I don’t know. My son Ryan, who was about 10 years old then, and of course knows everything, said, “I know why.”

I thought to myself I’ve got to hear this. What profound words will this child, who knows everything, utter from his mouth. He said, don’t you remember David and Goliath? David picked up five stones. It means victory! He said they put the number five symbol on the chariots and shields.

To say the least he got my attention. I said “Where did you hear this?” He said, “the Discovery channel.”

I was stunned with this enlightened information for a ten year old. God reminded me that he could use babes to speak profoundly if he wanted to.

So from that point I began to explore the number five in scripture and elsewhere and came up with a few interesting areas.

By the way God gave us victory at South Boston! I lift my hands in a symbol of a double victory!


Interesting 5’s

  1. Pentateuch – first five books of Moses – Greek term meaning five volumes

  2. Anointing oil – Ex. 30:25 – Vessels anointed, used to consecrate Aaron and his sons to the priesthood.

  3. So righteous in the city – Gen 18:26 – Abraham

  5. Year of Jubilee’ (50) means to be jubilant – show justice and loving mercy

  17. Because Hanna gave Samuel to the Lord – she and her husband were blessed with three sons and two daughters (5) – I Samuel 2:21

  18. Last verse in the Bible contains it: Rev. 22:21 “The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”

  19. Number one Christian song in our life time contains it: Amazing Grace (5 letters)

  20. Abram promised the Land – Gen. 15:9 – God’s grace came through a heifer, goat, ram, turtle dove, and pigeon – (5) – 5 sacrifices. When God changed Abram’s name to Abraham he added the fifth letter of the Alphabet (Hey) Symbol of the number (5)

  23. Exodus 13:18 – Children of Israel went up harnessed – rents of (5) Out of Egypt

  31. This devotion is to make us aware of the grace of God seen many times in the number 5 that surrounds our lives.

This was brought to my attention by my young son Ryan which is listed as number five in our family.

My five minutes that Brother Bell gave me are gone.

Revelation 22:21 – brings us to our prayer request – The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
