The demands on ministers today are enormous in scope. Being an associate pastor in two distinct churches, a state evangelist, pastored four churches, administrator of two Christian schools, etc., causes me to reflect on the fatigue my wife and I felt so often.

Ministry has many accomplishments in it but the work is never finished, so if you’re waiting on a break to happen, think twice.

The last church I pastored required that I would take at least two weeks off (missing two Sundays) in the summer time with a financial bonus.

Why? They wanted their pastor to get some needed Sabbatical time. It was done without guilt or worry. I can tell you it always refreshed my family and me.

As you know Sabbatical means rest. God requires us to take special rest periods, as He requires us to work.

Elijah was under such a load he ran into the desert absolutely fatigued. God sent an angel to minister food and rest to the weary prophet. When he got to the Mount of God, Elijah and Jehovah discussed the situation extensively.

God showed Elijah where he had made his mistake. He was not the only one serving God. He also brought healing to Elijah’s inner-self of God’s presence in a still small voice again. God prefers not to have to shout at us, but rather talk in a normal demeanor.

When we become tired and run down, sometimes even shouting at us doesn’t register. That’s why sabbatical rest is needed from time to time.

Here at The Center for Ministerial Care, we host four Sabbatical Sites for your rest. All you have to do is call us for scheduling. These sites are free for your usage.

The sites currently available for use are located in the following cities:
