Gene D. Rice, Director, SpiritCare

The Apostle Paul must have had elderly ministers in mind when he wrote to Timothy, "Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the work and doctrine" (1 Timothy 5:15).

SpiritCare is a ministry of the Center for Ministerial Care that seeks to raise the awareness of the church to the presence, potential, and sometimes plight of these wonderful people—the retired ministers and widows. We are taught to highly honor them and we do so by being thankful for all they have done in the past and by making sure they are properly cared for in the latter years of their ministry.

Church of God retired clergy represent a tremendous resource of talent and experience. They deserve deep appreciation for their past accomplishments, but it should also be recognized that they still have significant contributions to be made to the church. It is the intent of SpiritCare to develop ways and means of deploying a volunteer army of seasoned veterans to assist and strengthen those on the frontlines of spiritual warfare.
